The Ghetto Museum in Riga is a memorial and educational space dedicated to preserving the memory of the Riga Ghetto during World War II. The architectural concept transforms the existing urban fabric of the former ghetto district into an immersive spatial narrative.
The design works with the layers of history embedded in the site — existing walls, foundations, and street patterns become part of the exhibition itself. New architectural interventions are minimal but precise: a series of enclosed volumes that create moments of compression and release, darkness and light, silence and sound.
The museum integrates permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, an archive, educational facilities, and a memorial garden. The materiality — raw concrete, weathered steel, and reclaimed brick — establishes a somber, contemplative atmosphere while maintaining a clear contemporary architectural language.
